Parametric Splines in Computer Graphics
نویسنده
چکیده
This is an intuitive description of some of the parametric spline formulations that are most prevalent in computer graphics. The intent is to provide a "high-level". descriptive presentation rather than a detailed, rigorous one. The specific teChniques discussed are piecewise Hermite interpolation. spline interpolation. B6zier curves. Bsplines. Beta-splines. and rational splines. The topics of subdivision and geometric continuity are also explained.

We present a method for approximating an isosurface with a smooth parametric representation. From the isosurface we rst produce a patch mesh, a description of how many surface patches there are and how they are connected. We then create a smooth surface from the patch mesh. متن کاملSome Topical Variational Geometry Problems in Computer Graphics
o Smooth interpolation of arbitrary curves and surfaces is a major problem in computer graphics. There are very successful variational formulations of similar problems in smooth interpolation of arbitrary functions; these have given rise to the (linear) theory of splines. However, there appears to be as yet no equivalent useful formulation of the general problem, so present computer graphics al...
متن کاملSubdivision surfaces for CAD - an overview
Subdivision surfaces refer to a class of modelling schemes that define an object through recursive subdivision starting from an initial control mesh. Similar to B-splines, the final surface is defined by the vertices of the initial control mesh. These surfaces were initially conceived as an extension of splines in modelling objects with a control mesh of arbitrary topology. They exhibit a numbe...
متن کاملHB-splines: an interesting subset of B-splines for interactive CAD applications
This paper proposes to study a spline model, called HBsplines, that is in fact a B-spline representation of Hermite splines, combined with some restriction on the derivative constraints. Although this model does not appear able to offer something new to the computer graphics community, we think that HB-splines deserve to be considered for themselves because they embed many interesting features....
